Father’s Day is coming!

It’s one of my favorite days of the year.  Not because of presents and cards and such (although those are always appreciated), but because I am reminded how blessed I am to be a father and what that means to me personally.  I know not everyone is as fortunate as I have been.  Not only do I have a wonderful daughter and stepdaughter (who has been like my very own most of her life), but I also still have my dad around with whom I have some very fond memories.

But I also love Father’s Day because I am reminded of our Heavenly Father.  Not that I imagine God as having a gender.  I think God can be both, either, or neither, and however you most identify with God is totally acceptable.  For me, I find it easy to identify with God as Father, not just because the Bible often refers to God in masculine terms but because I am one.  As a father myself, God is an inspiration to me for what it means to be a parent – loving, self-sacrificial, firm when needed but never abusive, and living out the ideals he wishes for us all.

We don’t need a special day to remember God in our lives.  Hopefully, that’s something we do every day.  But on Father’s Day, I hope you will remember both the men in your life who have been an inspiration to you and our Eternal Parent in Heaven who loves you and give thanks for both.  Come to worship with us on Father’s Day (and every Sunday) and let’s honor him together.

Peace in Christ,

Craig

90th Anniversary is Coming – And We Can Use Your Help

This year marks the 90th anniversary of Berkeley Methodist United Church!  And we plan to celebrate our past together as we prepare for the future.  We are planning a two-day celebration of God’s ministry at BMUC on October 12 and 13.  October 12 will be a celebration lunch with a keynote address by Bishop Grant Hagiya and October 13 will be a special worship service as we envision moving forward into the next 90 years.

Since the celebration lunch is going to be such a huge effort, we would love your help!  If you feel called upon to help us plan the event, we have a number of areas we can use help including set up and clean up, decorations, favors, catering, etc.  Just email Rev. Craig (craig@bmuc.org) and let us know.
